Statewide Tree Planting Initiative

We are excited to announce that ITC is stepping up to sponsor $10,000 towards our new Go Green Youth Challenge! “ITC is pleased to lend our support to worthwhile causes, including this one to support the Michigan Arbor Day Alliance.,” said Linda Blair, executive vice president and chief business officer for ITC Holdings Corp. “We are proud to contribute to positive change throughout the region through public and private partnerships, especially those that engage youth.”

What is the Go Green Youth Challenge? The Go Green Youth Challenge will engage Michigan youth in environmental stewardship, community development and service-learning by participating in a statewide effort to plant trees in Michigan. Youth are challenged to collect coins as an individual, classroom or club. The coins collected will directly fund community tree plantings. Tree planting sites include school yards, cities and towns, and conservation areas such as stream bank stabilization and habitat restoration.

When is the challenge? Coin collection takes place: January 15th to April 1st, 2011.

Who will participate? Any Michigan youth prek-12 is eligible to participate in the Go Green Youth Challenge. Teachers, parents and club leaders will provide the guidance and support youth will need to organize their own coin collection.

Everyone who participates in the Go Green Youth Challenge is a winner! Participants can provide input on where trees should be planted in Michigan. Every participant will receive a survey asking where they think we should plant trees. The answers will help determine where we plant trees! Educators, group leaders and parents, there are downloadable education materials for you and an online community to connect with to receive even more resources. Did we mention there are Incentives, Awards and a Grand Prize?! Incentives, awards and special offers are based on the size of the participating group.
