Applications Now Being Accepted for 2013 Go Green Youth Challenge Tree Planting Grants

The 2013 Go Green Youth Challenge was a great success, exceeding goals set for the program in 2012.  We had over 200 Michigan students participate in the fundraising portion of the program, which takes place from January until April each year.  These students learned about the importance of trees to their communities while helping to create a greener Michigan.  With the help of Michigan’s youth, as well as program sponsors, this year’s Challenge raised $16,193!

As a result of this, the Michigan Arbor Day Alliance is once again offering their Go Green Youth Challenge Tree Planting Grants.

Eligible applicants include non-profits, local units of government, tribal governments, public educational institutions, churches, neighborhood associations and public libraries.  All applicants must be in Michigan.  Grants can be funded for up to $2,000 and can be used for the purchase of trees.  As of this posting, funds can only be used toward tree purchases, however this may change in the future to include other planting and tree care supplies.

Grant applications are due by mail by August 19, 2013.  Unfortunately, email and fax submissions are not accepted at this time.  Funded applications will be notified in September and planting projects must be completed by December 31, 2013.

You can download an application by clicking the hyperlink or by visiting our website.  The page for the grant also contains links to helpful information for tree species selection, planting, and maintenance.  A Tree Planting Guide produced by MADA is also available within the website on the Education page.  View previous grant plantings by checking out our Photo Album.
