Healthy Trees…Healthy People

We all know of the diverse benefits trees provide – improved air quality, stormwater retention, reduced soil erosion, reduced building energy costs, production of oxygen, providing habitat for wildlife…the list goes on and on.  But several studies are also showing that trees have a dramatic affect on human health and well-being.

The U.S. Forest Service has recently released a short video called “Healthy Trees…Healthy People” that demonstrates this relationship.  The video interviews employees from the  City of Portland and U.S. Forest Service to get their take on things as well as uses evidence from a study focused on the how the sudden loss of thousands of ash trees due to emerald ash borer infestations have affected people.
