Free Education Tool from the US Forest Service

Bringing the message of environmental responsibility to children can be a difficult task.  The information must be passed on in a way that is both engaging and easy to understand.  And for teachers there are the additional hurdles of curriculum requirements, time, and expense.  Fortunately, there are several organizations out there to help.

The U.S. Forest Service has recently produced a short DVD titled A Day in the Forest with Smokey Bear which teaches kids the importance of fire safety and the preventative steps they can take when out enjoying the woods.  They can even find out how to become a Junior Forest Ranger.

smokey bearAnd the best part?  This DVD is absolutely FREE!  If you order fewer than 100 that is.  Anything over that and there’s a small shipping charge.

This video is geared toward first and second graders, but the message is applicable to most elementary students.  Plus the additional resources available for download of the DVD itself include activities and lessons for K-12.

This is a great teaching tool for families and teachers alike!
