Learn Bird Songs Visually With Bird Song Hero

Birding can be a fun, inexpensive, outdoor activity that can be enjoyed by people of all ages in any location. Animals can be elusive, however. Especially when it comes to birds since their location is often above our line of sight or hidden in a dense forest. Seasoned birders can usually identify bird species by their songs or calls, allowing them to have a better idea of exactly what they should be searching for. But learning birdsong is far from easy. Luckily, there is a new tool that may help.

The Cornell Lab of Ornithology has recently come out with a visual way of learning bird calls. Bird Song Hero is a series of online tutorials that train your brain to recognize over 50 bird songs by using spectrogram visualizations in a matching game that helps commit the pattern to memory. For visual learners this may be a great teaching tool.
