Michigan Farm to School Grant Program

If you have wanted to create a link between your school and local food, this grant may help you get started. Twenty K-12 schools/districts and early childhood education programs will be awarded up to $2,000 in grants to plan or implement programs to include local foods into their meal plans. The deadline to apply it May 6, 2015. Information about the program is below or can be found on the Michigan State University Center for Regional Food Systems’ website.

With funding from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the MSU Center for Regional Food Systems provides planning and implementation grants through the MI Farm to School Grant Program.

Project Overview

 

The MI Farm to School Grant Program will award up to 20 Michigan K-12 schools/districts and early childcare and education programs with funds ($2,000 maximum each) to plan for or implement Farm to School programs. The grant year is September 8, 2015 – June 5, 2016. Applications are due by 5 pm on Wednesday, May 6, 2015. The MI Farm to School Grant Program offers Planning and Implementation grants:

 

  • Planning Grants help schools/districts and early child care and education programs plan for integrating local foods into their meal programs AND ultimately develop a Farm to School Action Plan to begin a Farm to School program.
  • Implementation Grants help schools/districts and early child care and education programs put existing Farm to School plans into action AND ultimately develop a Farm to School Sustainability Plan to keep the program going and growing in future years.
  • Contact and Program Information Sheet is required for all applicants to submit with application

 
Eligibility requirements:

 

  • Only food service/nutrition directors/providers of schools/districts or early childhood programs are eligible to apply.
  • Schools/districts and early childhood programs must have at least 50% free and reduced-price meal enrollment or equivalent. See the applications for more details.
